Getting Local leads Online is the latest craze. It has been widely reported that Local Search Engine submission is the best most cost effective way for many small businesses to go to get local leads. This is because of the recent shift where now more than 50% of Americans have substituted their local phone book (phone directory/yellow pages) with the Internet. This means that the phone book is fast becoming obsolete, which must mean that the Internet is now supreme.
So if the Internet is where half of small businesses clients and potential clients are going it only makes sense that, that is where small businesses need to be, especially if;
(1.) they are looking for new clients and...
(2.) they would like to keep their current clients...
Yes, now the average local small businesses who are not online are at risk of losing some 50% of their current clients to competitors who are currently online.
I would imagine some had tried putting up a website in the past and probably had some bad experiences that made them swear off the Internet for good... what can be done to help those small businesses?... Maybe the new crop of point and click website design services popping up all over the Internet could be one answer. Another answer could be the inexpensive cost of registering domain names now averaging $10 a year with a 1 year (not 2 year) minimum.
Someone just needs to tell small businesses about these things and open their eyes to the world of possibilities abounding all around them. One such company is Americas Best Companies -- That's why I joined forces with them recently, so that I can help and do my part to get the word out to as many Miami small businesses as I can (as I am in Miami... Miami Beach to be more precise).
Local search engine submission to get local leads is not all as simple as it looks... what Miami small businesses need to do is find a local lead generation service that will submit to both Yahoo Local and Google Local. If the company does not mention submitting to those top 2 local directories you would be wasting your time and money submitting to that local leads directory or local leads generation search engine company as you will only be exposed to their clientele which would be quite small compared to what is available out there for your area.
A few popular ones to submit to are SuperPages.com, Local.com and EzLocal.com, others such as MerchantCircle.com and TrueLocal.com are okay but they do not give you the biggest bang for your buck because they don't submit to the 2 biggest local search engines, Yahoo Local and Google Local.
Some of these local leads companies charge a one time set up fee as well as a monthly fee, this ranges from $25 - $150, then they charge from $20 - $100 per month. I say find a company that submits to at least 20 local directories including Yahoo Local and Google Local for about $20 - $30 per month would be fair. Oh by the way, small businesses do not need a website in order to be listed in most if not all local leads directories. So that solves half of their problems, but I think having a website is best for all small businesses.
Some of these local leads companies offer PPC services as well. I say only get that service if you don't have the time to do it yourself... and if you do use PPC make sure it is Google... I've tried a few different PPC companies and nowhere else is worth more than $0.05 per click in my opinion. If you're going to pay more may as well use the best. If you do have the time to do PPC yourself, simple buy a book or two on the subject from Amazon.com
Recently I got an email introducing me to an AT&T version of Local Leads Marketing. The way it works is, you open an account with a minimum deposit of $50. You then get an 800# or 877# that rings to your business phone number or whatever number you choose to use. You then write your ad similar to the way you would for Google AdWords, except this ad features your newly acquired 877# instead of a website address. You decide what days and time of days the ad is shown. With these ads you don't pay per click you pay per call, and you decide how much you will pay per call, with a cap for each day. That is what determines the rank of your ad. This sounds pretty interesting and a great alternative for those small businesses who insist on not getting a website.
